Making Tough Calls 35:365

Yesterday I saw that Landon Donovan was left off the original 23 man roster for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. For those of you who don’t know much about soccer (or who don’t care) you probably still know his name.

He is the face of US Soccer and has been for the past 12-14 years. To many, this is essentially like the Miami Heat telling Dwayne Wade, “Thanks for playing but we don’t need you in the NBA Finals.”

The truth is, it was the right decision. Based on all the factors, he is not the best fit for the team. Coach Jurgen Klinsmen was brought in to make these tough calls to improve our team!

As an educator you must also make incredibly difficult calls seemingly every day! I cannot remember the day when I did not make a decision that had a significant impact on the day or lives of all of the kids in my class.

You will be asked to make tough calls all day long! That is why you were put in your position. Remember that! You are qualified to make the quick, hard decisions that will change the lives of kids forever! It’s an incredible responsibility. You will not always get it right, but you should always be aiming to improve and get better at making those choices.
